At the global level, sustainability is a framework that is focused on bringing solutions to climate change. In China, the framework is almost entirely focused on solving the problems that are faced daily by its 700 million urban residents: air pollution, food safety, and access to affordable education and healthcare. Issues that, only a few years ago, were set aside as a tolerable cost of economic growth.
Over the last few years however, China's stance on sustainability has shifted dramatically. Regulations have been passed, and factories closed, all in the name of the environment.
But, with another 250+ million residents left to urbanize, is this going be enough, and in the face of economic headwinds, will progress be lost?
Rich Brubaker will provide insight into the challenges that China continues to face, and the actions being taken by government, the opportunity for China's entrepreneurs to take the lead, and lessons and opportunities as other Asian nations begin their own sustainability battles. 30 minute talk will be followed by Q&A.
