Mike Smith fled Shanghai in September last year amid a diplomatic storm that left Australian media with no reporters in mainland China.
The Australian Financial Review correspondent joins us online to talk about his time in China, and what he's learned about Sino-Australian relations since his unscheduled return home.
Mike was a board member of Shanghai FCC at the time of his departure. His book, The Last Correspondent, was published in April.
