Explore Yunnan Province with the Linden Centre and discover the traditional crafts of the region. Take this opportunity to travel out of Shanghai and experience the beautiful culture and outdoor space of Yunnan. Throughout this summer, the Linden Centre will host special travel packages for Community Center Shanghai's (CCS's) members into the diverse ethnic cultures of the Himalayan foothills.
In addition to exploring in Xizhou(喜洲), Dali, CCS is excited to introduce a Twin Town package of two locations in both Xizhou(喜洲)& Shaxi(沙溪). The Linden Centre spent four years to build and complete their Shaxi site. From "restoring" regional architecture to "creating" regional architecture, Linden Centre has been exploring the possibility of innovation in rural construction, culture and tourism. The architectural design scheme won the "American Architecture Award" in 2018. It was started with local resources and simultaneously strived to establish a reginal identity between the local and non-local communities.
The Linden Centre, a nationally protected heritage structure that has been restored and repurposed by Americans, Brian and Jeanee Linden. The Lindens have been living in China off and on since 1984, and the Linden Centre, which opened in 2008, has been ranked as one of the China's top hotels for over a decade. It remains one of the only nationally protected buildings open to overnight stays in China.
The hotel, which is located in the ancient city of Xizhou(喜洲) at 2,000 meters in altitude, floats above grassy-green rice fields nestled between one of China's largest lakes, Erhai(洱海), and the 4,000-meter peaks of the Cang Mountains(苍山). This fertile kilometer-wide plateau is home to a number of colorful ethnic groups, including the Bai, Yi, Lisu, and Miao. The region is renowned for its year-round spring-like weather and diverse flora and fauna.
