Community Center Shanghai's (CCS's) Podcast Discussion Club is a social gathering, where club members meet on an on-going basis in person at a fixed venue for the purpose of discussing and sharing ideas, view, opinions, and experience linked to specific aspects of mental health and well-being.
· First, a link to the topic is released via a wechat group for members who have signed up to join the club.
· Members listen to the chosen podcast episode on an issue related to mental health in advance of the meet-up.
· Then we gather in person to share and discuss themes and ideas covered in the podcast content.
October's topic: Domestic Violence
Wed, Oct 25, 7-9 pm
258 Tongren Road
"Many survivors look back on an abusive relationship, domestic and sexual abuse alike, and ask some variation of "Am I crazy? Was I really abused?"
This can come up because the abusive person may call their reality and their sanity into question. It may come up because their abuse doesn't look like what they thought abuse would look like, or wasn't as "severe" as someone else's journey."
This question comes to many for various reasons. If you've asked this, then our podcast discussion club in October is for you!
Podcast Episode Title: You're not crazy – you were abused (available on Apple Podcasts)
Discussion points:
"How can an experience of abuse lead someone to doubt their ability to understand their reality?"
"Does abuse always recognizable?"
"Why is the cycle of abuse so persistent"?
