China is a major power in the 21st century, and Germany has a strong interest in a stable and healthy China: the future of German companies depends on their role in Chinese society. By practicing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), companies can have a true impact on all aspects of society, including economic, social, and environmental. The continuing success of German companies in China depends on a new perception of the business environment here: namely, that China is more than just a market!

Starting in 2015, the More than a Market initiative has become a leading platform for sharing best CSR practices by German companies in China. Throughout the year, a variety of workshops and publications on relevant topics are being hosted and released. Once a year, an annual prize is being awarded to honor companies who set a positive example with their engagement.

We are excited that in its fifth year, our More than a Market Awards have reached a remarkable number of 84 applications. The companies behind these projects generate more than 500,000 jobs in China. This shows the strong and growing engagement of German businesses in Chinese society.

In the past weeks, the members of the More than a Market jury - experts from the fields of German and Chinese businesses, academia, and the public sector - have reviewed all submitted projects and compiled a shortlist of nominees – with the first category presented below. The winners in three categories will be announced at the More than a Market Awards Night on 29 October 2020 in Shanghai.

In this year's special edition of More than a Market, shortlisted companies will get the chance to introduce their projects in a series of online events in September.

Join us to learn about outstanding CSR initiatives and to connect with like-minded enthusiasts during our More than a Market 2020 celebration of 5 Years 5 Days. Participants will get a chance to win free tickets* to our workshops, taking place 26-30 October in Shanghai!
