The introductory robotics course will use the Wedo 2.0 robotic kit in students' initial explorations of robotics and code. The kit includes Lego and Lego Technic compatible blocks that can be used build a variety of vehicles and structures. Students will also become familiar with the LEGO Block programming language which allows them to write code for their creations. Part of the course will be spent on students familiarizing themselves with the code and how it interacts with the devices that they create.
These explorations, with the help of the teacher, will introduce basic problem solving, computational and engineering skills. While this is an introductory course to robotics students who have some experience can benefit from the course. In addition, lessons will be differentiation if students have already attended previous or similar Wedo classes. Students are recommended to bring their own iPads, but there will be a few available for loan.

Speakers
Mr. Trela
Mr. Trela was the Head of the Computer Science department at Yewwah International Education School for 4 years where he became well versed in STEM education. He received his Bachelor of Mathematics with Honors in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Canada, and a Bachelors of Education from Queens University in Kingston, Canada. He has a variety of work experiences in the fields of Information Technology which include web design, database design and management, and security coding in corporate consulting and non-profit organizations. He also has many years of teaching experience in international school and university settings. In his free time, he enjoys running summer camps for disadvantaged children in rural China and training Chinese teachers to do the same. Mr. Trela has lived in China since 2011 and hopes to spend many more years here engaging with the culture and people of this great country.
