As part of the Austrade program for the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), Austrade has partnered with AustCham China to host a Financial Services Seminar to highlight and promote collaboration between Australian and Chinese financial institutions and businesses.
This seminar will explore opportunities for collaboration between Australian and Chinese financial institutions and businesses in the current economic and business environment.
The event will be in English and there will be Chinese translation for both on-site and for online format.

Speakers Biography
1. Hon. Nick Sherry. Chair, TWUSUPER and Australia's first Minister for Superannuation, BA, FAIST, GAICD
Nick was a Senator for Australia (Tasmania) for 22 years and the Minister for Superannuation and Corporate Law (Australia's first), Assistant Treasurer, Small Business Minister and Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Resources. He is currently the Chair of TWUSUPER, Chair of Household Capital, GO Sourcing, Co Chair Singapore Forum, Member of Advisory Committee to Roc Partners, DWS APAC Expert Panel and Chair of an NGO; Youth, Family and Community Connections.
He has worked as a Senior Advisor, Global Pensions and Superannuation for Citi Group and EY in some 27 countries to government, regulators, think tanks and providers, on all aspects of pension system design and operation thereof. He was a member of the OECD Irish Pension Study Group, the Steering Group on Social Security at the World Economic Forum, independent director of Spotless (ASX:SPO ), Chair of FNZ (APAC ) and a Chair, founding trustee and secretary of 3 superannuation funds.
2. Dr Christopher Perks. A/g Minister Counsellor, Commonwealth Treasury at the Australian Embassy, Beijing
Dr Christopher Perks is the Counsellor (Treasury) at the Australian Embassy in Beijing. A key part of his current role in China is understanding and communicating developments in the Chinese economy and financial markets. Prior to this role, Chris led the team responsible for forecasting and advising on the global economy (including China) in Treasury's Macroeconomic Conditions Division. He also has considerable experience in fiscal policy and intergovernmental issues. Before he joined Treasury in 2017, Dr Perks was a Senior Economist at the Productivity Commission and worked on inquiries into workplace relations, public infrastructure, the national disability insurance scheme and the economic regulation of electricity networks.
3. Dr Hong Liang. Co-Chairman of Institutional Business Committee, Huatai Securities
Dr. Liang joined Huatai Securities in July 2022 as the Co-Chairman of Institutional Business Committee, overseeing the firm's equity business. Before that, Dr. Liang Hong worked at Hillhouse Capital management during June 2020-June 2022, as the Director of the Institute of Innovation and Industry Studies. Before Hillhouse, Dr. Liang worked at China International Capital Corporation (CICC) between 2008 until end-May 2020, was a member of the firm's Management Committee since 2014, and served various roles including the head of Research Department, the head of Capital Markets Department, and co-head of Sales and Trading Department.
4. Tianning MA. Partner, KWM Beijing
Mr. Ma Tianning specializes in securities, mergers and acquisitions, and foreign direct investment. He has extensive experience in securities and has represented a number of companies in their private investment projects, cross-border or domestic IPO projects, mergers and acquisitions, and foreign direct investment transactions.
Mr. Ma Tianning joined King & Wood Mallesons in 2003. He received his LL.M. from London School of Economics and Political Science, and his LL.B. from China Foreign Affairs University.
5. Robert Campbell. Senior Consultant, Strategy, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bankโฏ. AustCham Beijing Financial Services Committee
Rob worked over 12 years at McKinsey & Co, a leading global management consulting firm, where he focused primarily on infrastructure, urbanization and transport, serving clients both in mainland China and across East Asia (2 years based in Sydney, over 10 years based in Beijing). He also spent five years working with infrastructure and real estate funds management firms in both Beijing and Singapore, where he was CEO Asia of Hastings Funds Management, a specialist infrastructure fund manager (and at the time a subsidiary of Westpac).
6. Vaughn Barber. AustCham China Chair
Vaughn joined KPMG in Hong Kong from Australia in 1996 and became a partner in July 2000. After working in Hong Kong for nearly 15 years, Vaughn moved to Beijing and became Head of Outbound for KPMG China in 2011. He served as Asia Pacific Regional Leader, Deal Advisory M&A Tax Services from August 2009 to June 2015. Vaughn was a key member of the leadership team of the Global China Practice since its inception and was appointed Global Chair in July 2015. Vaughn also served as Co-Head of Infrastructure for KPMG China from July 2015 until September 2021.
During his career, Vaughn worked with Chinese state-owned and privately-owned companies to complete many landmark overseas acquisitions. Vaughn was frequently listed as one of the leading tax advisers in Hong Kong, was a member and Vice Chairman of the International Fiscal Association, Hong Kong branch and a member of The Joint Liaison Committee on Taxation. In 2019, Vaughn was part of the leadership team that bid for, won, and delivered the China Infrastructure Program, a GBP10m Official Development Assistance (ODA) Program under the UK's Prosperity Fund.
7. Alan Reid. Managing Director, MA Financial
Alan Reid is a Managing Director at MA Financial Group and is responsible for the company's business in Greater China. Alan has over 30 years' experience. Alan was the Minister Commercial and Senior Trade Commissioner at the Australian Embassy in Beijing and the Principal of Intercedent - a business in China advising on inbound and outbound investments.
8. Ms. Bei Shi, Director, Global Capital Lead
Bei currently leads the international salesforce and investor solution service at ChinaAMC. She also assumes responsibilities for global partnership and cross-border marketing. Prior to returning to China, she has extensive experience working in corporate finance and global markets in both Europe and North America. She used to head up the cross-border business development for overseas institutions at Bank of China in the U.K. before that, she looked after multinational corporates at Barclays in U.K. and U.S. Bei holds a M.S. in International Business from University of Leeds.
9. Zhihui Fu. Division Head, Financial Market Department, China Construction Bankโฏ(CCB) Beijing Headquarter Office
Mr Fu Zhihui is the head of global investor trading services division, financial markets market department of China Construction Bank.
He started his career in CCB as a bond trader in 2009 and later broaden his coverage to all FICC products. He was head of money market and funding division of CCB Hong Kong Financial markets center between 2018 and early 2022. With his rich experience in international communication he is ready to help global investors to get access to China interbank market
10. Lauren Gilbert. Trade and Investment Commissioner, Shanghai, Austrade
Lauren currently leads the Technology, e-Commerce and Consumer Products team across Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong markets.
Lauren also oversees Austrade's Shanghai Landing Pad, a program dedicated to Australian innovation scale-ups. Lauren has extensive commercial experience having spent most of her career working in sales and business development roles for reputable technology companies, including IBM, LinkedIn and Salesforce.com, as well as innovative e-commerce and SaaS start-ups.
