After years of deliberation, the German Federal Government has passed the draft of a "Law on Corporate Due Diligence in Supply Chains" on March 3rd, 2021. The aim of the so-called Due Diligence or Supply Chain Law ("Lieferkettengesetz") is to safeguard legal clarity for businesses and to strengthen companies' overall compliance. Simultaneously, the EU is deliberating similar legislation. Against the backdrop of recent tensions regarding companies' supply chains in China, the speakers will provide an overview of what German companies must know to prepare for the expected changes in an ever more complex legal business framework. 

 

Our speakers will provide an exclusive overview of practical aspects of the planned German Law on Corporate Due Diligence in Supply Chains ("Gesetz über die unternehmerischen Sorgfaltspflichten in Lieferketten").

    Director Law of International Trade and Trade Facilitation at DIHK

    Dr. Dube is the Director Law of International Trade and Trade Facilitation at the DIHK. She has served at a variety of German federal and state-level institutions and is an honorary lecturer for the module "Foreign Trade Law" of the Master's programme in International Business Law at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. She has been educated at the universities of Potsdam and Paris-X-Nanterre; she holds a PhD from the University of Potsdam.

    Martin Knapp

    Director Special Projects, International Markets of DIHK

    Martin Knapp was born in 1958. After school and studies in Münster, Athens and Bochum, he worked for the Ministry to the Prime Minister in Athens from 1983. In 1988 he became correspondent for the Federal Office for Foreign Trade Information in Athens (now Germany Trade and Invest). Martin Knapp subsequently headed the office of the German-Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Greece) in Thessaloniki for 13 years. 2001 to 2005 Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Belgrade, Serbia. 2005 to 2008 responsible for the coordination of the AHK network at the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) in Berlin. 2008 to 2012 Managing Director of the AHK in Athens, 2013 to 2021 in the same position Belgrade. Since March 2021 responsible for sustainability issues in the International Markets Division of the DIHK.

    Director East Asia at the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry at German Chambers of Commerce and Industry

    Vera Philipps studied Area Studies East Asia with a focus on China, macroeconomics and international relations in Cologne and Chongqing. During her time at the university she worked as a research assistant in the field of European politics. After her graduation in 2006, she was awarded with a scholarship from the German Fellowship Program on International Affairs to work for one year with international organisations. Subsequently, she spent four years in Beijing setting up and managing an environmental project consultancy and a project office for the private foundation Stiftung Mercator. Her engagement with the latter continued until 2014. During her time with the international department of Stiftung Mercator in Germany, Vera Philipps was responsible for the programmes “Intercultural Competence/Exchange Projects” and “Cooperation for Sustainable Urban Development”, both with a focus on China. Since 2016, she is Director East Asia at the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry, closely watching the economic relations with Greater China, Japan and Korea.

    Constanze Wang is leading AHK’s Government Affairs in East China and is part of the AHK China’s national advocacy team. Previously, she managed the integration of a Chinese state-owned enterprise with a German mid-sized company in the cement industry. For her PhD, she did extensive research on knowledge transfer in Sino-German cooperation.
