Event Details

This event is the launch event for the HeForShe initiative organized by the Global Shapers Beijing hub and Lean In China, supported by UN Women China, as a part of Global Gender Parity Week (5-11th December, 2016). The event is designed to promote senior men as role models in supporting women at home and in the workplace, and engaging more men to take up actions to support women in their daily lives.

On November 7th, 2016, Lean In China published the white paper on “Women, Work and Happiness” together with a coalition of strategic partners Procter and Gamble, Tencent, Ctrip, LinkedIn, Caijing, Hexun, Yale Centre Beijing and Peking University's BIMBA. The survey set out to explore unique challenges facing Chinese women in their professional, personal, and social lives. Detailed analysis was conducted of the collected data for the purpose of advancing gender equality in both the household and the workplace. Approximately 2,000 Chinese women participated in the survey and we found that the top 3 challenges in the workplace cited by Chinese women were all linked to familial responsibilities. The HeForShe launch event is meant to showcase why greater engagement with men, institutions and the society is required to help women overcome their challenges at home and the workplace.

The panel will address three key questions:

1. What kind of support do women need from men, workplaces and society?
2. What is the value of gender diversity from a personal, corporate and societal perspective?
3. How do you combat sexism and unconscious bias?

The panel will be in Chinese only.
