The event series explores the increasing demands on industries due to shorter product life-cycles and the complexity of production technologies, emphasizing the necessity for innovative and comprehensive production technologies and factory control. It aims to present new methods and tools developed by the production systems department of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) for designing and optimizing efficient production systems, tailored to dynamic industrial needs from strategic planning to production and quality control. Highlighting new solutions from German industrial research projects, KIT research associates will share their experiences, alongside insights into current trends from leading industrial partners.

Machine Learning Based Modelling for Automatic Control in Continuous Manufacturing

To meet the demands of higher quality and lower cost while at the same time using less resources and facing the loss of experience from an aging workforce, advanced strategies for the control of highly complex manufacturing machines are needed. Digitalization and Data-Science supply the tools for the development of intelligent data-driven process models that, deployed as digital twins of their real-world counterparts can provide valuable insight into the interdependencies of process parameters and final quality and even feedback control impulses to the operators or the machine directly. To accurately model the internal processes of complex machines, sophisticated modelling pipelines need to be constructed, including Feature Engineering, Model Building and Control Strategy.
