Volkswagen has been active in a Joint Venture with SAIC in Shanghai since 1984. Only producing one model - the Santana - at the beginning Shanghai Volkswagen (SVW), is meanwhile producing a wide range of car types of the brands VW and Skoda in their plants in Anting. SVW has constantly adapted to the changing demands of the Chinese market and even developed unique car models for the China to remain competitive. This special excursion will give the participants an overview over the production of SVW in Anting as well as recent developments and challenges in the Chinese car industry. Furthermore, the special conditions for the production facilities in the Shanghai Automotive City in Anting will be explained.
For those who have an interest in the automotive industry please join us on this site visit to get an idea how German car production has evolved in Shanghai. As the car sector is still a protected industry in China, it is very rare to have an opportunity such as this, with "behind the scenes access", allowing participants to have a firsthand look at the road cars being put together and to discuss the future of the Chinese car markets with experts from SVW.
