Hatha Yoga for Spring!
Hatha Yoga helps to restore balance and symmetry in the body and mind through physical postures (asanas) and controlled breathing (pranayama). A regular practice will build up strength and grace in the body and keep the mind calm and focused. We start from the very beginning, learning how to practice step-by-step.
The classes will introduce you to basic yoga asanas and will provide plenty of opportunity to unwind, stretch and ease away tension. You will learn how to:
-develop body awareness-balance flexibility and strength
-improve concentration
-increase energy
-manage stress
Yin for Spring!
Slow down and open your body through passive stretching. In Yin yoga, floor postures are held from one to 10minutes using a method of compression.
Modern lifestyle places us in environments that are excessively yang. Artificial lighting, heat and air conditioning systems, pollution, electronic devices and a lack of green and silent spaces can deplete and unbalance our systems. A yin practice helps us to slow down, hit pause and re-root ourselves back to the earth.
The postures allow the muscle groups to soften, while exposing the joints to gentle pressure. The effect of gravity, over time, stretches and compresses connective tissue, increasing moisture to the joint sites, the more yin part of our anatomy. The result is a greater ease of motion with less effort. Yin yoga teaches us to be more mindful, to stay with our experience, and to remain calm even when we face discomfort or when things are in flux. This is a vital tool we can take off the mat and into our everyday lives.
