Nearly one-fifth of China's population is now considered overweight and 12% of it is diabetic. This health crisis is due to a changing diet, which also adversely affects the world. The increasing demands of foods, such as meat and dairy, in China have led to environmental pollution, land degradation and water scarcity. Peggy Liu of JUCCCE believes educating people on dietary habits will benefit the environment on a societal scale.

Join us this Friday, December 7, as we invite PeggyLiu, chairperson of JUCCCE, to discuss her personal journey to creating JUCCCE's initiative Food Heroes and the difficulties and challenges in scaling and ensuring its impact.

Food Heroes is a food educational program that focuses on behavior change and sustainability by teaching children to eat well in a manner that is good for the planet. The goal of this is to implement small changes in eating habits so that the children eat more fruits and vegetables and make more conscious choices.

Peggy is one of the leading voices advocating for a greener China and has been awarded honors by various organizations around the world. These include a Time Magazine 'Hero of the Environment' in 2008, a Forbes 'Women to Watch in Asia' in 2010, and a Shanghai Excellence Award in 2014.

JUCCCE is non-profit organization that aims to accelerate the greening of China for a healthier planet. Some achievements of the organization are introducing Smart Grid to China in 2007, educating nearly 1,000 Chinese government leaders on how to build sustainable cities, and launching the China Dream Initiative in 2010. The non-profit is now primarily focused on changing diets through Food Heroes.
