This workshop will give an update on international commitments against climate change - explaining the outcomes of the Conference of the Parties (COP23) that concluded last week in Bonn - as well as projections of the upcoming national emissions trading scheme (ETS) in China that is scheduled to come into force by the end of this year. Also, you will be informed about energy savings options for your company.
Our first speaker and moderator, Mr. Joseph van der Elst Construction and Building Operations Workshop leader, and Deputy Managing Director of energydesign (Shanghai) Co. Ltd, will give an introduction about the COP, including commitments of the COP21 (Conference of the Parties 2015 in Paris), the progress reached in this year’s conference and some background on the status of reaching the 2°C objective. He will then present solutions for companies such as the Energy Management System (ISO 50001) and how to use it, as well as measures like energy audits, portfolio analysis and the multi-site approach.
Our second speaker, Mr. Kristian Wilkening, project director of the project “
Capacity Building for the Establishment of Emissions Trading Schemes in China” at GIZ, will give an overview over the policy background and China’s undergoing approach to building a national energy trading scheme (which is to be released very soon). Topics will include experiences from the pilot emissions trading systems in different Chinese regions and expected features of the national emissions trading scheme. The following questions will be discussed: What are the key issues and challenges related to the implementation of the emissions trading scheme? What will be the next steps?
